Is Trying Enough?

My latest column is out. Admittedly, it's a little less cheerful than usual, but, uhm, yeah.

Here's my favourite line: "Relationships, academics, bank accounts, careers, opportunities to make friends in the Klingon community -- I've driven them all into the ground at some point."

When I was younger, I didn't even know what trompe l'oeil meant. By younger, I mean like 4 minutes ago.
Now that I know, I'm still not that impressed.
But the point is that I'm sure you'll do fine. You have a new non-slacker haircut which surely indicates a new dedication to discipline and achievement.
And the most important thing is that, succeed or fail, your experience is entertainment for the rest of us. So it's all win-win, really.

I particularly liked your story about deciding against going to prom with a particular girl.

If you're going to fail, fail big. Like, REALLY big. Keep up your BBC fame, as they report on your descent. Maybe you could even get into the tabloids.

And if you don't fail once in a while, it doesn't mean you're successful, it means you're not doing anything.

Whichever way it goes for you, you are definitely doing SOMETHING. And we're rooting for you.
