Putting Eric's dog-dressing habits to shame

This is Matt's dog. Much to my surprise, I actually have three pictures of Matt on my Flickr account, but none are such that they would be of much use in picking him out of a police line-up. That's OK, though, because I'm not making fun of Matt, I'm making fun of his dog.

At least, I assume this is his dog; he has several pictures of it running around looking happy on the beach. In this picture, of course, she looks miserable. The look on her little doggy face says to me: "If I had hands, I would be using them to strangle you."

And rightly so -- look what Matt's done to her. At first glance, it appeared to me that he had dressed his dog as a matador. In fact, according to the caption, he has dressed her as a geisha.

I am as big a fan of animal cruelty as any other red-blooded American, but costuming some poor animal as a Japanese prostitute just seems to me to be taking things one step too far. It's just so, so wrong (and yet so, so amusing).

The only positive about this is that Eric suddenly seems like slightly less of a goof for dressing his dog.

I think the dog looks cute. Maybe he's trying to make the picture-taker trip by batting his doggie eyelashes. I wonder if they trained him to do the nifty fan dance?

I didn't even know dog costumes existed, in fact I was unaware dogs could wear costumes, and being that the dog's Geisha costume is probably looking nicer than any cheap Geisha costume I would wear, next time I have to dress up, I'm going as a dog.

You know that somebody, somewhere, is going to slap you for that cultural misrepresentation, right? A Geisha isn't a "Japanese Prostitute."

"Memoirs Of" was written by a white guy, who stole the pieces of the story which were based in fact. And the movie version? Chinese actress. The whole thing gives me the creeps.

Japanese prostitutes tie their sash at the front, to allow ease of er, access, a Geisha ties her sash at the back.

I don't know how it works on dogs though.

That is cruel and unusual alright. I don't blame the dog for looking pissed off. The 'wig' is the topper though.

I find this news that geishas are not prostitutes to be very distressing. As a result, I have cancelled my travel plans to Japan.
